One of the "prettiest villages of France"
and for many years part of the Viscountcy of Turenne, AUTOIRE is still dominated
by the ancient Limargue Chateau-a country manor restructured in the 16 th
& 17 th c. The village is enclosed in a valley giving on to the Dordogne
and houses many fine renaissance buildings; the church's Chancel is a mass
of sculpture. Opening out onto the plateau, a 30 metre waterfall cascades
down the surrounding cliffs, to one of which still cling the ruins of a
Hundred Years War fortification called a "Chateau des Anglais".
